The ThriftyKing Hog fountains are made of foam filled insulated poly (not heated, but you can add an optional immersion heater). They are not as tough as the fully stainless hog fountains so the factory discourages their use with big ol' mean sows. But you can be sure that normal use by swine won't be any problem. Since sunlight can't get into the unit, there will be very little algae growth or calcium buildup. We like to say that THRIFTY KINGS ARE TERRIFIC! This model, the thriftyking HG2, can be placed in a fenceline and water two pigs one on each side at the same time - total of 2.
